What is badshah begum?

Badshah Begum was the wife of Mughal Emperor Jahangir and the mother of his successor, Shah Jahan. She was also known as Mughal Empress Begum Sahib.

Badshah Begum was born in 1577 in Lahore, Punjab, which was part of the Mughal Empire at the time. She was the daughter of a Persian nobleman, Mirza Sanjar Asad Beg, who served in the court of Emperor Akbar.

Badshah Begum married Prince Salim, who later became Emperor Jahangir, in 1586. She was known for her piety, generosity, and charity towards the poor and needy. She also played a key role in the administration of the Mughal empire and wielded considerable influence at the royal court.

Badshah Begum was the mother of four children, including Shah Jahan, who went on to become one of the greatest Mughal emperors. She remained a trusted confidante and advisor to her husband, Jahangir, throughout his reign.

Badshah Begum died in 1604, at the age of 27. She was buried in a mausoleum near Lahore, which is now a popular tourist attraction. Her legacy as a strong and compassionate empress is still remembered in Mughal history.
